When a page administrator opens the expandable app tab in the timeline they will see all available apps including the photo and notes tabs. This can be deceiving, as a general user will not see all of these tabs. When a user selects the drop down menu to expand the tabs they will only see the first twelve tabs including photos and notes. This means if you are having an app live on one of the tabs below the first twelve, you as an admin will see it, but no one else will have access to it.

App Activity Gets A More Prominent Position On Timeline

Facebook has increased the size of the “recent activity box” and added a new “recently” used apps” box. With the increased size of the recent activity box stories now have a larger thumbnail next to them. Making the stories more visual, may encourage users to click on them and certainly will make them more noticeable. In addition to the changes to the recent activity box Facebook has also added an apps box. This box displays apps that a user has recently interacted with in a clear and prominent fashion. This should help users discover new apps that their friends have used.
Timeline Increases Brand Engagement 46% According To Study

A research company, Simply Measured, has released the results of an initial study in regards to brands upgrading to the Timeline format. The study took a relatively small sample however the results are encouraging. The study only considered 15 brands two of which (Toyota and Livestrong) have achieved an increase in engagement not consistent with the average brand.
Adam Schoenfeld, CEO of Simply Measured released the following statement in regards to the statement: “These are just preliminary results,” he says. Simply Measured looked at early adopters and compared their Pages’ engagement from Jan. 1 to Feb. 29 and then from Feb. 29 (the day Facebook allowed Timeline Brand Pages) until March 26 and compared results. (If the brand launched its Timeline Page after Feb. 29, then Simply Measured started from that date.)”
Facebook Improves Photo Viewer

Facebook has announced yet another upgrade to the photo viewing function. Photos will be displayed in a higher resolution. Users will also have to the option to expand the photo to a full screen view. In order to expand to the full screen view they must click the two arrows in the top right of the photo. Expanding the photo also removes all buttons and ads. Currently the full screen option is only available in Firefox and Chrome browsers. Facebook released the following image to show the improvement in the new viewer:
This new option will enable brands to display high res photos on their page with instructions on how to expand the photo. This could be yet another valuable tool for brands to implement in their Facebook Campaigns.
Facebook Alters Appearance Of Permalink Pages
Facebook has updated the permalink page for individual posts. The new look will mirror the style of the new Timeline format. The appearance of permalink pages use to be displayed on a white background however this look did not mesh with the new Timeline format. Permalink pages will now appear on a lite blue background.
All posts on Facebook have a unique URL that simply shows your post/content by itself. The way you can access this permalink is by clicking on the time-stamp (of when you created the post). That will then take you to the permalink page.
The most notable change to permalink pages is the addition of a large and prominently displayed “like” button and “subscribe” button. This could lead to far more likes for brands as users who have no association to the brand page will be able to see their posts if a friend has liked or commented on them. With the option to subscribe and like this is a significant improvement for brands looking to leverage the new Timeline format.
